The Day The Gypsies Won The World Cup

The Day The Gypsies Won The World Cup.

They asked for equal opportunities, to be politically correct,

And created a Gypsy football team, to compete with the worlds select.

Questions were asked and plans were drawn, to see if all would fit,

They could have a coach and stadium and a brand new football kit.

Their colours were chose with badge just right, with Romany flag and name,

The FA were pleased that F.I.F.A agrees to kick racism out of the game.

But who will play? The word went out, who’s proud to admit they are Rom?

A  Gypsy, a Traveller, a Diddikia, any blood any takers anyone?

To prove them all wrong the names came forth, that worried their national teams,

Welsh Romanichal and Spanish lad, a Pole and Portuguese.

A Croatian and Czech, Bulgarian and Swede, Brazilian and Frenchman too,

From Barcelona, Madrid and AC Milan, Galatasaray and Man U.

With all this talent about, should carry some clout, who could organise such a team?

They put Harry in charge, got respect on the large, and the boys were in with a shout.

They were drawn in a group that would give them some hope, of a chance to compete with the best,

But little did they know they would get through and go, into the next round and progress.

With a lot of luck and a skill of their own, they were proving hard to beat,

With a crafty move and dummy sold, and a crystal ball at their feet.

The keeper was safe, their strikers were fast, the defence was as tough as old nails,

A chance to stamp out the shame of prejudice in the beautiful game ,was like the wind in all of their sails.

The stage was now set, without a shadow of regret, all ethnic minority of minnows at hand,

They played with a passion and pride, for they couldn’t hide, the drive and determination inside.

Who could of believed that this team would succeed, to be Gypsy kings and champs of the world,

When the celebration was done, the world said “Well done”, and asked for that trophy of solid gold to be shown,

The Gypsies denied, the cup by their side, all knowledge was lost, it had gone.

They looked high and wide that priceless item to find, with no trace forever and more,

From that day to this, the world cup has been missed, and a new one they had to replace,

They asked and they searched, questioned and cursed,

But it had vanished without a trace.
