Who are we?

Who are we?

When John Major's Conservatives brought the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act into force in 1994, they said they had rave culture firmly in their sights.

Since then, it seems like everyone's got an opinion about New Travellers, including many Romany and Irish Traveller people themselves.

But like other kinds of prejudice, whether it gives a good or bad view, such opinions are more often based on hearsay than contact.

In 'Who are we?', people from the New Traveller community talk about what their community means to them, about why they took to the road, and about what it really takes to live as a nomad in modern Britain.
