Dont leave it too late new diabetes guide

1 October 2009

Don’t Leave It Too Late is a new guide for Gypsies, Roma and Travellers on spotting and managing diabetes.

According to the national charity, Diabetes UK, people from the community are no more likely to get diabetes than anyone else: but they sometimes leave it late before seeking help.

Travellers’ Times’ Barbie Smith, Delphine Butler, brother Gary Buckland and young Traveller, Jessica Royles recorded the CD. They all have family members who have suffered with diabetes.

“Diabetes is affecting more and more people from the community,“ says Barbie Smith. “We hope the new CD will help people spot the early effects of diabetes and give them some useful ideas on managing the disease.”

The CD covers:

  • Introduction to diabetes
  • What is diabetes?
  • Eat well. Stay active
  • Other health problems
  • Hypos
  • Travelling with diabetes
  • Who to contact
