From scrap iron to 9-iron: Gypsy golf show announced

18 May 2012

Romany Gypsies are famous for their skills in the boxing ring. But we're less well known for having a handy looking handicap on the golf course. So if the fairway's your field and you know how to strut and putt, then a new television show profiling the cream of Gypsy golfers is looking for you.

Later this summer a team of the best Romany golfers from the south of England, featuring "gentleman Gypsy" golfer Joe Smith, will take on a team from the north in an established, Ryder Cup format. The northern team are looking for players so if you think you're good enough to make the cut then get in touch.

"This year we're going to film it and we'll televise parts of the event later on in the year," says TV producer Tim Gaunt. "We're looking for good golfers - ideally a five handicap or under, but would welcome interest from golfers of a ten handicap and under."
