Hunting down the Health Centres

24 November 2009

The Government's setting up new, Walk-in Health centres up and down the country to improve the community's access to health.

But exactly where are they?TT's Leanne Jones tried to find out by calling NHS Direct.
“I’m staying in the cattle market car park at **** (she mentioned a Midlands market town)," she told them. "Where’s my nearest Walk In centre?”
“There’s a minor injuries centre nearby.”
“Is it ‘specially for Gypsies and Travellers?”
(Long pause)
“I‘m sorry but I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Dr O’Neil from a new Walk-in Centre at Crewe said this showed up “the gap between rhetoric and reality. This is a fascinating bit of research and it should raise awareness about the lack of information about these Centres."
