Lord Avebury - equality for Gypsies and Travellers

22 April 2015

Lord Avebury is a Liberal Democrat peer who was previously MP for Orpington. He proposed the 1968 Caravan Sites Act, which resulted in the first council sites for Gypsies and Travellers in the UK.

The Act was effectively repealed by the 1994 Criminal Justice and Public Order Act, but Lord Avebury continues to champion equal rights for Gypsies and Travellers. In this interview with Travellers' Times, he explains why this is as crucial today as it has ever been.
