Appleby Fair is the highlight of the year for many Gypsy and Traveller people. Dating back hundreds of years its an opportunity to meet with family and friends, to trade horses, to chat and sing around the campfire and connect with our roots. An often "rare opportunity to be yourself" and feel safe in the company of others.
In 2020, due to the Coivd19 pandemic that swept the world, it had to be cancelled for only the second in it's history.
Travellers Times dipped in the archive of photos old and new from the fair and asked people to share their thoughts and memories of what this fantastic age old gathering means to them and their people.
We couldn't replace the fair but we hope our film inspired others to share their own memories, connect with others and look forward to happier times.
