Community land trusts - a solution to the sites shortage?
1 April 2010
Spread the word
Mendip Council in Somerset are offering 0% loans to Gypsies and Travellers so they can buy and develop land to live on.
The innovative ‘community land trusts’, flagged up in Travellers’ Times Winter Issue 40 (Buy it yourself, page 2) are being piloted by Mendip Council which hopes to create two sites this year.
If the project is a success the Council would offer loans the following year.
Other councils are expected to follow Mendip’s lead – but only if word gets round.
Do you know of anyone interested in finding a site in Somerset? Or lobbying their council to set up a community land trust in their area?
