Dorset Councils Work Together To Beat Demand For Sites
Having received the go ahead from councillors, the project launched on June 17 with a conference of public, private and voluntary sector groups and representatives of settled and travelling communities at the Corn Exchange in Dorchester.
The councils will be working in partnership over the next three years to produce a joint Development Plan Document (DPD), which will allocate permanent and transit sites for Gypsies, Travellers and Travelling Showpeople to meet the needs identified in Dorset for the next 15 years.
Dorset County Council says this will give greater certainty to both settled and travelling communities as to where development will be allowed.
A range of information, including frequently asked questions, national policy guidance and details of how to get involved, is now available at http://www.dorsetforyou.com/travellerpitches.
To suggest a site, landowners should contact Baker Associates on (0117) 933 8950 or email travellersites@bakerassocs.com. The deadline for suggestions is July 30, 2010.
