Researcher wanted for Gypsy and Traveller folk music project

A prestigious folk music library launching a Gypsy/Traveller music project is looking to hire a freelance researcher and is encouraging Gypsies and Travellers to apply for the role.

The Vaughan Williams Memorial Library, part of the English Folk Dance and Song Society based at the famous Cecil Sharp House in London, will be working with the University of East Anglia and the University of Sheffield to help curate and develop awareness about its collections of Gypsy and Traveller music.

The freelance paid role will be starting in March, 2023, and last until the end of July, 2023, with the project’s launch at Strumpshaw Tree Fair in Norfolk on the 16th July, 2023. The role will be mainly home-working with some travel expected to take part in development meetings in London and the launch event in Norfolk. Travel and accommodation will be paid for this on top of the research fee of £2,000.
