Exhibitions

The "We Shall Remain" exhibition highlights photography and poetry by local Romany children and young people, exploring their heritage amidst the sacred spaces of Sound Common in Cheshire. This project, led by community elders, empowers youth by connecting them to their ancestral homes and instilling pride through art and storytelling.

Reflecting on their experiences, the children expressed, "We want wider society to understand that our ancestors' homes were places like Sound Common," emphasizing their desire to highlight the often-overlooked cultural richness of Romany life.

The "Heroes and Ancestors" exhibition pays tribute to British Romany individuals who have shaped and enriched both Romany culture and broader British society. It features intimate biographies of war heroes, storytellers, humanitarians, and even a Gypsy queen, challenging visitors to reconsider preconceptions about the Romany people.

"This isn't just about Romany culture but about history and heritage that is very much part of British society," said Charmaine Abdul Karim, Director of Pride of Romany. "This is a huge opportunity for people to take a look inside a very private community and see who British Romany people are. Through these exhibitions, we honor our ancestors and educate the public about our contributions to the national tapestry."
