Don't fancy the squalor and heat of the Glastonbury Festival? This weekend has a great variety of events for those who want to find out about Britain's orginal tent dwellers.
Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month 2009 has been an enormous success with events in every region and most counties and districts in England. This weekend is also packed with events to go out and celebrate Gypsy and Traveller culture. Here’s where you should be this weekend.
Saturday 27th June
South East
In Hartley Wintney, Hampshire. Hart Voluntary Action has organised “Travellers Got Talent”, a singing and music contest between Hampshire and Surrey Gypsies and Travellers, but the audience looks set to come from much further a field.

Rom hip-hop artist Toby Gorniak is putting on a Gypsy, Roma and Travellers festival at Plymouth’s Barbican Theatre, Castle Street, PL1 2NJ. It’s on from 12:00 to 4:00pm and entry is free
East of England
Join the crowds at Cambridge Midsummer Fair’s biggest day. The ancient Gypsy fair takes place in one of Britain’s most beautiful cities. Go to: Midsummer Common, Cambridge, CB4 1HA
West Midlands
As part of Gypsy Roma Traveller History Month, Warwickshire Police are hosting a family day at Police Headquarters in Leek Wootton.Attractions include storytelling with Garth Cartwright, award winning author of ‘Princes Amongst Men’ and a traditional Roma band featuring a dancing display.
You are encouraged to bring your friends and children to the event, there will be activities running throughout the day.

After last year’s great success, Gypsies: Who are ya! looks set to become an annual event during Gypsy, Roma, Traveller History Month.
Worcestershire’s Gypsy Traveller Heritage & Country Fair Event is a celebration of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller arts and culture as part of GRT History Month.
