Carrickmines, South Dublin Travellers' Site Fire details - Victims named.

Ten people including a pregnant woman and five children died in a fire at a Travellers’ site at Carrickmines, South Dublin.

The victims have been named:

Willie Lynch and Tara Gilbert, their daughters Jodie (9) and Kelsey (4), Thomas Connors (27) and Sylvia Connors (25) and their children Jim (5), Christy (2) and Mary (6 months). Jimmy Lynch, 39, who is Willie's brother, also died in the fire.

Another two adults and two children have been taken to hospital with injuries.

The emergency services were called to the site at 4:00 am on the morning of Saturday 09th October. The blaze is said to have started from a pre-fabricated building and quickly spread to nearby units, the site is currently cordoned off whilst investigators find out more details of how the fire was started.  The police are also investigating the fire but it is not being treated as suspicious.

Irish Prime Minister Edna Kelly paid a visit to the site on Sunday to meet the families of the victims. He stated that that flags will fly half mast at all public and government buildings on the days that the funerals take place. He also said there will be invetigations on how the fire started and spread but this will not ease the pain for the relatives of a “tragic, horrible incident”.

Members of the public have been leaving messages and flowers of the entrance of the site, prayers have been said at masses for the victims and their families.

The Republic of Ireland nation football team held a moment of silence before their match with Poland in Warsaw for the Euro 2016 qualifiers.

Books of condolence have been opened in Dún Laoghaire, Dundrum and the Mansion House in Dublin. Lord Mayor of Dublin Críona Ní Dhálaigh opened the book at the Mansion House which has been signed by the Irish President Michael D Higgins.

There was a vigil on Wednesday at the site, where hundreds of mourners turned up to place candles in memory of the people that passed away.

The funerals of Jimmy Lynch, Willie Lynch, Tara Gilbert, Jodie Lynch and Kelsey Lynch will take place in Bray, County Wicklow

The Funerals for Thomas Connors, Sylvia Connors, Jim Connors, Christy Connors and Mary Connors will take place in Wexford.
