Traveller Pride needs you! Trustees sought for group to expand
1st February is the first day of LGBT History Month and grassroots organisation 'Traveller Pride' are launching their search for Trustees as they look to move from being a loose collective to a more formalised legal entity.
"It serves a few purposes" Tyler Hatwell, the group's founder, told TT "it will help with funding bids which will mean we're able to deliver even more services but also mean that we are more likely to be invited to the key discussions. We are an entirely Traveller led group. Most of the organisations speaking for us aren't representative of us, so if this helps us be there and use our own voices, it's worth doing."
Traveller Pride have a number of plans for the upcoming year already including expanding their phoneline, delivering more free therapy and creating more accessible content, but much of the direction of the next year will be determined by the expertise and interest of those who apply to be involved and the passions they have.
"I'm a psychotherapist, so last year mental health ended up being the main focus. I'd like to bring in people with ideas and ambitions for the project that are the kind of thing I'd never come up with. This is the most exciting time to get involved because you would be fundamentally setting the direction of the group." continued Tyler
Whilst a level of expertise or understanding in governance is important, Traveller Pride is mostly looking for enthusiasm, understanding and commitment.
