Help Paralympian athlete Johnboy Smith replace his damaged racing wheelchair
Romany Gypsy Paralympian Johnboy Smith has launched a crowd funder to replace his racing wheelchair, which was severely damaged in the Paris Marathon earlier this year.
The Romany Gypsy athlete – who has won gold and silver medals for Great Britain in the Commonwealth Games and represented his country in the Paralympics – was left out of pocket when the Paris Marathon insurance company failed to pay out after a race-track pile up severely damaged Smith’s vehicle.
With no other way now open of being able to afford the £10,000 needed for a new racing wheelchair, Johnboy has now turned to crowdfunding.
“All I ask is that if anyone can donate anything towards a new chair, not only will I be so grateful but it will help excel my career (and) continue to compete at an elite level for this country,” says Johnboy Smith.
“He's local to me and I have seen him out at 5.30am training on my way to work. Keep up the good work JohnBoy,” said one supporter to the crowd funder.
