Your chance to help shape a new Local Plan for Chiltern

The future of Chiltern District is in the making. And if Chiltern is where you call home, you’ve got until 6th March 2015 to make your mark on its future.

Whatever your walk of life, whether you’re a Gypsy, Traveller or not, if you live in Chiltern, now is the time to have for YOU to have YOUR say about what the next two decades have in store for your area. Nobody knows the needs of Chiltern better than you, the people who live and work there.

Chiltern District is consulting at the outset of preparing a new Local Plan for the area, which will establish and plan for the development needs of the district until 2036.

The new Plan will eventually replace the adopted Core Strategy and other relevant parts of the adopted development plan.

The eight-week consultation starts on Thursday 8 January, and ends at 5pm on Friday 6 March. Views are being sought from residents, groups, organisations, developers, landowners and businesses in Chiltern. At this stage, the consultation is not specific but open to identifying issues of concern which the Plan should address, new principles to guide development and any specific points considered relevant.

Feedback from the consultation will help the Council identify planning objectives and a plan strategy, help inform the level of development required, where that should be and planning policies to be used to determine planning applications.

The Council has decided to withdraw the Delivery Development Plan Document (DDPD) following concerns from the Planning Inspector. He suspended his examination of the document in November, concluding further work was needed on it. Council considers the Inspector's concerns are best addressed by a new Local Plan which the Council has already started, building on and developing the work already done.

Cllr Graham Harris, Chiltern District Council's Cabinet Member for Sustainable Development, said: "We need to accurately assess the anticipated needs for both housing and business needs in the period to 2036. I cannot emphasis enough how important this Local Plan will be for the future identity of Chiltern, and it really is incumbent on residents, businesses and local organisations to get involved and give us their views. We've made the consultation period longer than usual in order to give people as much time as possible to respond. If you care about what happens to Chiltern in the future, please participate."

How to take part: The Initial Consultation and Call for Sites documents and forms to respond are available from the Council’s website: www.chiltern.gov.uk/planning/localplan2014-2036 or in hard copy from the Council Offices in Amersham (King George V House, King George V Road, Amersham, Bucks. HP6 5AW) and libraries serving the District (please check for opening times).
