Fire fighter

Last year Ely firefighter Emily Haysom hung up her overalls and went visiting local Travelling families with a camera. In a bid to build better relations with Norfolk’s Gypsies and Travellers Cambridge, Emily met up with local families.  "I asked each person to share something important to them. Everyone showed me a warm welcome.”

The fruits of her visits went on show at Ely Fire Station Emily in February at an exhibition called Invitation to Tea.

Fire chief Matt Murdoch explained the bridge building exercise: “In the long term, we will be able to use the new links we have created with Travellers to further improve the services we offer to all sections of the community.”
