This weekend, Gypsies and Travellers from across Europe will descend on the southern French town of Saint Maries De La Mer to liberate the patron saint of all Gypsies from her crypt. Jake Bowers reports on the pulling power of Kali Sara.

Pilgrimage of St Sarah

When: May 24th 2009

What is it: The Gypsy pilgrimage to Saint Maries De La Mer “liberates” the effigy of the patron saint of the Gypsies, Kali Sarah (Black Sarah), by taking her from her crypt to the mediterannean sea.
Where does it take place: In the small town of Saint Maries De La Mer in the Camargue, France. How to get there: Take a cheap flight to Montpelier or Arles or drive the whole way with a trailer.
What to take and do: Take money, instruments and a trailer if you can. Be prepared to get wet!
